Biography

Kristina Zimbakova (b. 1975) is a Macedonian painter known for her symbolic and figurative mixed-media works, often created with handmade paper from fungi. Her art blurs the line between painting and sculpture, featuring rich textures and interdisciplinary elements. She incorporates fungi and lichens both as artistic media and poetic references, "drawing" with lichens and crafting mosaics with fungi. Her materials come from diverse global habitats, sourced through dry collections or personal forays in collaboration with bio-scientists. Her recent solo exhibitions include Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (2022); Razklon Gallery, Bulgaria (2020); Belasica Mt, Macedonia (2019); and Belfast School of Art, Northern Ireland (2017).
