Biography

Zixin Yan is a Chinese artist working across drawing, painting, installation, and sculpture. Her work explores the fleeting nature of human experience in contrast to the timelessness of nature, often merging natural and digital elements to create immersive experiences that invite viewers to become part of the artwork. Having lived in China, Romania, and the UK, Yan's multicultural background informs her diaspora identity, offering her a unique cultural perspective. She believes art is a universal language capable of addressing important global questions. Through practice-based research, she blends personal and historical contexts to expand the boundaries of her work. Yan's ongoing project, Artificial Wombs, explores the representation of the uterus across cultures, balancing technological interventions with the female body’s natural capabilities. Using archival materials, experimental techniques, and immersive displays, Yan offers an alternative future narrative, highlighting the universal, non-binary, and emotive power of art to deepen our understanding of the world.
