Eszter Bornemisza is a Budapest-based fiber artist who transforms recycled paper, textiles, and discarded materials like X-ray and circuit films into intricate, thought-provoking artworks. Her process combines machine stitching with printing, dyeing, and painting, while her sculptural pieces incorporate handmade paper pulp, rush, and sedge for added depth and texture. Originally trained in mathematics, Eszter’s self-taught journey into fiber art began with art quilts before evolving into translucent wall hangings and installations that merge newspaper and thread. For over two decades, she has explored urban cartography, manipulating city maps through distortion and layering to reflect the complexities of identity, urban life, and personal history. Her innovative approach has earned international recognition, with works featured in juried and solo exhibitions worldwide. Eszter’s creations, which examine themes of identity, urbanity, and the fleeting nature of information, are housed in prestigious museums and private collections globally.
