Biography

In 2012, Anne-Marie Lacroix Raffy (AMLR) discovered clay during a visit to a ceramist’s workshop, a moment that sparked her artistic journey. Since then, she has sculpted expressive female figures—whom she calls “Guardians”—inspired by sisters, friends, and meaningful encounters. After 20 years of expatriation, she opened her studio in Nantes, France, in 2018. Her travels deeply influence her work, weaving together cultural memories and personal reflections. She shapes emotions, sensations, and inner narratives in clay, exploring themes of memory and identity. Her sculptures incorporate elements of her Asian heritage, imprinting traditional Lao weavings and ancestral Chinese patterns onto the clay’s surface. Each Guardian is carefully molded, decorated, and fired at high temperatures, creating a striking contrast between their delicate expressions and material strength. Through her work, AMLR preserves cultural narratives, transforming clay into a vessel of history and emotion.
