Biography

My name is Christine Chetty Payet, and my work explores issues related to women within various contexts. The multicultural society of Seychelles, with its rich diversity of influences and experiences, continues to inspire my artistic practice. As a visual artist and educator, I seek to provoke meaningful dialogues about the exploitation and successes of women within a global, multicultural, social, and political landscape. My work is deeply rooted in concerns about the perception and treatment of women, as I explore their emotional, spiritual, and social conditions to make powerful statements through art. I draw inspiration from my immediate surroundings and the broader human experience. Fabrics serve as a universal medium in my work, bridging social classes and linking the past to the present through contemporary artistic expression.
